Fergus Fox

Just finished is the promised painting I have been hinting about, Fergus Fox in all his glory, now up in the shop!

 Fergus Fox 8x10

He is outfitted in a little blue sailor jacket with matching knickerbockers! He's out for a stroll with his little yellow toy duck.

I imagine him to be walking atop the wooded highlands, hence his wonderful Scottish name Fergus.

He'll later be joined by his darling little sister!

Blog Feature

This exciting news deserved its own post!
We wanted to share this spiffy blog that we were just written up in! A big thanks to North Way Studio for choosing us for their weekly Monday Morning Feature!

"There are a few reasons why I adore The Blooming Hare.
First off, they are outrageously talented and have a beautiful imagination.
And secondly, they're fellow Michiganders--which automatically makes them amazing."

-North Way Studio

Thanks Maria!

Be sure to hop on over and check it out!

The White Rabbit Pendant Necklace

Added to the shop today is the White Rabbit Necklace!

"..but when the Rabbit actually took a watch out of its waistcoat pocket, and looked at it, and then hurried on, Alice started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat pocket, or a watch to take out of it.."
-Lewis Carroll Alice in Wonderland

He was always such a dashing character, one of my secret favorites! But within the glass dome, he is just extra wonderful! The effect of these glass domes with my illustrations couldn't be more charming!

Also coming your way very soon from The Blooming Hare studio will be a new painting that I just can't wait to share!

Busy, busy, busy, but oh what fun!

A Father, a Super Hero

With Father's Day being tomorrow I couldn't help but dig out a favorite photo of my own dear Da. I have kept this picture safely nestled in my pink wallet since I was a very little girl. It has always captured the essence of my father in a single shot, and I think the photographer was a genius to snap the shutter right at that exact moment.

Taken when he was a little boy, I love this picture, the background, his wonderful blue plaid shirt, his happy smile and shining blue eyes. All part of the boy who would become the man who is my father.

And I forever have this wonderful tribute to my father on photographic paper.
May I introduce... my super hero!

I am so thankful for you Da! My brother and I are spoiled on your sense of humor and kind gentle heart.
Out of all of the arms in the world, we were given yours.
Your eyes, your voice, your smile.
You.

Happy Father's Day!

Monarch Butterfly Pendant

The next necklace added to the shop has been the monarch butterfly!

You might remember this little winged creature from the Nature's Friend painting! I was so fond of it though, I had to give it its own spotlight and put it in a pendant! I've always loved butterflies, they're so beautiful!

When I was young I would spend endless hours watching butterflies with an over sized net in my hand, I was careful not to harm them though. Once I caught them I would draw them and maybe sing them a little song and let them continue on their way. I never kept them, I always returned them back to their freedom!

Happy Friday my little rabbits!

Wearable Art

A while back I dropped a hint about a few Blooming Hare goodies coming your way soon! Well the time has come for that promise to finally materialize! A few of our paintings have been turned into lovely pendants that you can proudly wear around your neck and always carry a bit of art with you!

They are beautiful vibrant prints under a glass dome that magnifies the image so it pops out at you and has a three-dimensional look! They have a true vintage flair to them, and the antique brass really brings that out! The 20 inch chain is the perfect length to lay and be easily seen around your neck.
Wearable art is so much fun! I love these little guys! I need to make a few for myself, one of each I think!

They will be added to the shop one-by-one over the course of the next few weeks. Our first wearable art subject is the foxy fellow, The November Portrait! He is now up for sale in the shop!

They are very Victorian-esque and the pictures don't really do the magnified effect justice.
I am so proud of them they turned out just lovely!

The Blue Caterpillar

The final painting in the wonderland series Down the Rabbit-Hole I have been working on is finished at last and in the shop, and I must say I couldn't be more pleased with it.

How marvelous and bizarre meeting the Blue Caterpillar must have been for Alice! He is such a mysterious fellow. I pictured the Caterpillar as a fuzzy chap with brownish-gold hair as opposed to the more frequent blue skin. I decided to give him a very elegant blue vest with loads of little gold buttons, quite striking against his dark hair. He is perched atop his polka dot mushroom puffing out smoke rings, three in a row according to size. He couldn't look more dandy than he does in his miniature monocle and slick black hair modeled up into very fashionable little rings resting on the top of his head! Alice has shrunk down to the size of mouse and is peeking up over the edge of the mushroom at the unusual sight.

While the passing bumble bee and blue Forget-me-nots observing the entire scene are my secret favorites!

The Caterpillar seemed occupied with the thought of who Alice was but, I find myself wondering a bit about him. Mr Caterpillar, who are YOU?

Actually the name "The Blue Caterpillar" is a nickname for him, whilst through the book he remains simply The Caterpillar. However I did like the ring to it, and I titled my painting after it and of course that's why the blue vest made an appearance!

It was such fun to do this series I am sad to see the end of it, Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite stories. A true classic book for all ages.

I am currently at work on some other goodies to share soon, as well as another series in the not-so-distant future perhaps. Until then have a grand day and don't forget to take time to smell the flowers.

Venus, Fairies and Emma

Yesterday evening Venus, the brightest planet, made her way across the Sun for a rare viewing most people see just once in their lifetime. Seeing as it isn't going to happen again for a very long time, we were determined to catch it this time around. We tried several different approaches we even made a pinhole camera box to view it, but it was so tiny it was difficult to see. Emma our Golden Retriever was very interested in the box. She held her squeaky toy Mr. Rabbit above it, as if showing it to him too.

Finally after much trial and error our entire family was able to see the wondrous event, using the Crabtree approach! We projected it onto a wall using a tripod, a pair of binoculars and some patience. We were able to watch it for quite a while, only having to get up every few minutes to refocus the lens. We tried to capture it with our camera, but it came out a little fuzzy. This one turned out the clearest, Venus is the dot in the bottom right corner.

Eventually we started casting shadow puppets on the wall, and at some point this little fairy figurine made an appearance aside Venus, now a fuzzy dot as we hadn't gotten up to refocus the lens for a while.

It was all great fun, and it was a memorable event to share!
Happy trails Venus!

The Transit of Venus

We will be keeping our eyes to the sky tomorrow June 5th as Venus passes right in front of the sun, it will be a rare astronomical event of the brightest planet! Seeing as this won't happen again until December 11, 2117, We're planning on catching this one. Be sure to get a good seat and protect your eyes while looking to the sun. There will be lots of observatory spots open, which would be a perfect place to view this phenomenon!  We'll be witnessing something that has fascinated people through the centuries!

Mum and I have been learning the constellations so we can easily recognize them this summer while we stargaze and drink tea on hot summer nights!
