Aged to Perfection

Aged to Perfection   17"x11"  Acrylic on paper

I am so excited about this project! I was approached by an Australian Wine Company to illustrate their wine label.

I love this family of foxes, with Mama and Papa Fox being the operators of a little vineyard. And their little girl is just after a tasty treat.

It was one of my favorite commissions of all time! To top it all off, the lovely folks of the company are going to send me a bottle of my very own. I'll be sharing photos of it with you as soon as I have it in my hands.

Sunday Afternoon

Sunday Afternoon   14"x11"  Acrylic on paper

An out-of-doors teaparty with a bear in attendance.

A commission that has had to be hidden for the past few months because it was painted for a lady who wanted to present it as a Christmas gift.

I like all of the little things going on in the painting.
Another finished piece is waiting to be revealed to you today as well!

Betty's Christmas Jumper

Betty's Christmas Jumper   11"x14"  Acrylic on paper

I painted this lovely reindeer lass for my favorite UK fashion print Betty Magazine.

It is being shipped around the globe in the form of a Christmas card greeting. I'm so thrilled to have collaborated with these wonderful gals again!

Can't wait for my own card to arrive at my doorstep.
Have you started feeling the Christmas spirit in your corner of the world yet?

Owl Lover 2015 Calendar

I am so excited to announce that The Owl Lover 2015 calendar is now available!
This is my third year taking part in this wonderful project put together by the lovely folks at My Owl Barn.

It is such a fun calendar that allows you to choose a painting for the month of your choice. So you design it yourself!

There are lots of lovely works to choose from and this is my contribution.

Plus it's completely free! Download it and print it out.
Or even print one, wrap it up, and give it as a gift!

Pumpkin Carving

October is such a beautiful and fun month. And then as a kiss goodbye each year, it gives us a fun day like Halloween.

This year I did something a bit different. I have recently discovered that I enjoy the Doctor Who series to no end! So for fans of that wonderful show... I present my pumpkin Dalek!

In the words of the Ninth Doctor "Oh, and I caught your little signal, help me, poor little thing. But there's no-one else coming cause there's no-one else left."

Have a happy WHOloween!

Renaissance & Papyrus Gallery

I am so honored to have my artwork hung up in the Renaissance & Papyrus store in downtown South Haven. This lovely little gallery I have there houses my framed illustrations & novelties.

It's a wonderful thing to get lost in all of their lace and feminine dresses.

Renaissance & Papyrus carry specialty books, clothing, jewelry, bedding, home d├ęcor, cards, knick knacks, and just about anything a girl would love to have.

The shop owners JoAnn & Johannah are such lovely people. Everyone who works there always makes a visit there a wonderful experience. It is hands down my favorite store.

Trying on fun accessories!

They also have a lovely garden you can visit out their back door. There's an entire little secret garden back there.

Four & Twenty Blackbirds Baked in a Birthday Pie

October is one of my favorite words, I just love the way it sounds. It is also my favorite time of year. And every October, I get to celebrate my birthday. I feel so blessed to be born in my favorite month!

This year I requested a cherry pie.

accompanied by fish & chips..

Along with four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie to celebrate my 24th year!

Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye
Four and Twenty Blackbirds,
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing;
Wasn't that a dainty dish,
To set before the king?

Happy October to all of you!

Kris Kringle

Kris Kringle   8"x10"  Acrylic on paper

Here's my version of old Kris Kringle himself. A right jolly old elf. He's ready to spread Christmas cheer, and dust your chimneys out in the process!

Here's the 2014 Christmas card set together.

I have three new cards this holiday season. They'll be available by the end-of-October-first-of-November.

Until then, the Kris Kringle & Bear Claus originals are for sale and prints also.
For me the Christmas countdown has begun!

Bear Claus

Bear Claus   8"x10"  Acrylic on paper

Say hello to Santa's bear, he lives with him in the North Pole! He has quite a sweet tooth. I think Santa may have put a candy cane in his mitten.

This fella is part of a Christmas card set! Oh Mr. Postman, please hurry with my greeting cards.
I can't wait to send these off to my own friends & family.

Happy Tuesday!

O Tannenbaum

O Tannenbaum   14"x11"  Acrylic on paper

This illustrator has been hearing silver bells, and listening to classic carol-crooning, these past weeks. The halls of my heart have been decked with boughs of holly & jolly.

This merry bunch is the epitome of holiday larks.
Here is the 2014 Christmas Illustration, now available as a print while the greeting cards find their way from the printers to my doorstep. By the first of November, O Tannenbaum holiday note cards will be stocked in the shop!!

Hope this puts a bit of Fa-la-la-la-la in your step today!

Delusions of Grandeur

Teddy Roosevelt Bear & Napoleon Musk Oxen   both 8"x10"  Acrylic on paper

I wrote a little poem for the set titled Delusions of Grandeur. The poem and paintings appear in the new issue of Old Tat Magazine, a print magazine out of the United Kingdom.

Delusions of Grandeur
a poem written and illustrated by Gretchen Ellen Powers

Roosevelt was skeptical
And Bonaparte was sure,
That neither he nor Teddy
Had had quite such hair before.

And wouldn't for our lessons
Make a more intriguing pair,
If Napoleon were an oxen
And old Roosevelt a bear?

Napoleon Musk Oxen

Napoleon Musk Oxen   8"x10"  Acrylic on paper

Napoleon Bonaparte's famous hat reminded me quite a bit of the horns on a musk oxen.

His hoof tucked into his unbuttoned shirt, is also capturing a recognizable trait of his.
I'm titling this set, "Delusions of Grandeur".

Perhaps worth noting:
I just may have written a little poem to accompany them. Come read it here later today!

Teddy Roosevelt Bear

Teddy Roosevelt Bear   8"x10"  Acrylic on paper

Taking historical figures, and turning them into animals.
This is President Theodore Roosevelt, appearing as a brown bear.

A second to come soon!

This has been hard for me to write, but I lost a dear friend this past week. My big, happy yellow dog Emma has passed away.

This is my favorite photo of Emma & I.
And that's all I have to say about that.

I love you Emma.

In My Hart of Hearts

In My Hart of Hearts   8"x10"  Acrylic on paper

Something I did for the music magazine, The Girls Are, illustrating the song "Maps" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This gentlemen deer is my interpretation of the song lyrics. I'll be letting you peek into the print magazine shortly.

His clothing and title were inspired by a little quote from the pen of great literary icon, Will Shakespeare. It just seemed fitting as "Hart" is an old world term for a male deer or stag.

"Show me the person who's master of his emotions, and I'll put him close to my heart—in my heart of hearts—as I do you."
-William Shakespeare, Hamlet

Morning Glory Muffins, Tea & Toys

..Official list of 5 things I'm thankful for today..

1. These Morning Glory Muffins (the recipe was tweaked a bit)
2. Sketching a new painting
3. The season of sweaters begins in just 17 days
4. Vintage floral fabric
5. Old fashioned toys (See below: Edward the wooden horse)

Morning Glory Muffins are such a wonderful thing to wake up to, it's a small wonder what inspired their name. Here Edward my own wooden horse is keeping a close eye on them until snack time officially starts.
